Commander Sherred L. "Les" Guille
COMMANDING OFFICER
Commander Sherred L. "Les" Guille, U.S. Navy, assumed command
of USS Menhaden (SS-377) on January 2, 1970, at Subic Bay, Philippines.
Commander Guille is a 1955 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
His naval career commenced in 1948 with three years enlisted service. Prior
to entering the Submarine Service in 1957, he completed a tour of duty
in USS Higbee (DDR-806). His submarine assignments have included duty on
USS Charr (SS-328), USS Greenfish (SS-351), USS Wahoo (SS-565), and USS
Tang (SS-563). Other assignments include duty under instruction at the
U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California and at the Spanish
Naval War College, Madrid, Spain. Prior to assuming command of Menhaden,
Commander Guille served on the staff of Commander Submarine Force, U.S.
Pacific Fleet.
Commander Guille is married to the former Nancy J. Hackney of
Arlington, Virginia. They have two daughters, Katherine and Sarah.

Lieutenant Commander Don S. Harper, Jr.
OPERATIONS OFFICER AND NAVIGATOR
Don Harper reported aboard Menhaden during February of 1970
after having served for two years at the Inertial Navigation Trainer on
the Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut. He is now serving as Menhaden's
Operations Officer and Navigator.
Don graduated from the University of Utah in 1961 and went directly
to Submarine School before reporting to the USS Sea Devil (SS-400). He
then went to the FBM Navigators School, spent six months TAD on the USS
Sirago (SS-480), and then reported to the USS Simon Bolivar (SSBN-641),
where he served for three years.
Don is married with three children and enjoys hunting, fishing,
camping, and gardening besides being very active in his church.
Lieutenant(jg) Donald L. Atchison
ENGINEER
Don Atchison reported aboard Menhaden on 12 November 1968. Don
is a NESEP graduate of Purdue University majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
After graduation, he attended OCS at Newport, Rhode Island and Submarine
School at New London, Connecticut.
LT(jg) Atchison entered the Navy in July of 1958, attended Nuclear
Weapons School and was assigned to Guided Missile Unit 10. Other duty assignments
were aboard the USS Grayback (SSG-574) and the USS Tunny (SSG-282) before
being selected for the NESEP program.
Lieutenant(jg) William R. "Rusty" Babington, Jr.
COMMUNICATIONS/EMO OFFICER
LTJG "Rusty" Babington was commissioned in June of 1969 after
graduating from the University of Colorado with a B.S. in Political Science.
After attending Submarine School, he was onboard the USS Segundo (SS-398)
until her decommissioning in August of 1970. He reported onboard Menhaden
on 7 August 1970.
His wife Carol is presently attending San Diego State College,
working on her Masters degree.
Lieutenant(jg) Les Parsons
ASSISTANT ENGINEER
LTJG Les Parsons reported aboard Menhaden during February of
1970 after completing six months of Submarine School in New London, Connecticut.
He was born in Lodi, California, and first entered the Navy
as a recruit in August of 1962. Les then went to Machinists Mate "A" School
and Nuclear Power School before being selected for the NESEP Program, which
he completed at the University of Utah, majoring in Chemistry and graduating
in June of 1969.
Les is married and has a three year old son. His hobbies include
fishing and photography.
Lieutenant(jg) Ken Hanson
SUPPLY/FOOD SERVICE OFFICER
LTJG Ken Hanson reported aboard Menhaden on 15 May 1970 after
graduating from Submarine School.
Ken graduated from the University of Missouri in June of 1969,
majoring in Geology. After being commissioned, and prior to Submarine School,
Ken spent five months on the USS Sablefish (SS-303).
WO-1 Don F. Shaw
WEAPONS OFFICER
WO-1 Don F. Shaw, USN, reported aboard Menhaden in September,
1969, after being selected for and commissioned as a Warrant Officer in
August, 1969. Warrant Officer Shaw entered the Navy in September of 1957.
After attending Electronics Technician School, he saw duty assignments
at Naval Communications Station, Guam, USS Pictor (AF-54), USS Chipola
(AO-63) and at the Reserve Training Center at Treasure Island, California.
In July of 1963, Warrant Officer Shaw was selected for Submarine
School and after graduation received training in the Ballistic Missile
Submarine Navigation Systems at Dam Neck, Virginia. He then reported to
the USS John Marshall (SSBN-611) where he made seven patrols before selection
for the Warrant Officer Program and reporting aboard Menhaden.
