In October of 1970, Menhaden participated
in the "Longex 70" exercises with naval vessels from Great Britain, New
Zealand and Australia. Menhaden was voted "Playmate of the Year" by the
other participants in the exercises. Above is the Playmate Longex70
banner on her sail. While down there, some of the crew exchanged hats with
the British, Australian, and New Zealand sailors, as well as French sailors
while operating with them out of Tahiti. When Menhaden returned to San
Diego in November, some of the crew wore their exchanged hats.
