was the Torpedo Officer on the USS Darter (SS-227) in October of 1944,
during the Ambush at Palawan Passage; then, Walt was the Engineering Officer
when the USS Menhaden (SS-377) was commissioned in June, 1945; and finally,
he was the Menhaden's Commanding Officer when she was decommissioned
in May of 1946.
